- Open Quickplot from Program Files > SurvOPT or using the
button in SurvOPT
- Enter your polygon boundaries by typing the coordinates, dragging boundaries or importing a text file.
- Enter basic details like line spacing and shot interval. If these aren’t known yet, try a couple of options to see how they affect the survey’s cost and duration.
- Press “Save”. You’ve just saved a P190 file which can be imported into SurvOPT and other programs for analysis.
2. Add in the vessel info, costs and real-world constraints (5 mins)
- In SurvOPT, select “New” to start the New Survey Wizard.
- In the “Import Preplot Lines” dialog, choose the P190 preplot file you made in Step 1, or a P190 preplot file generated by some other process.
- If you know the details of the vessel that will be acquiring your survey, enter them. Alternatively, try out a few options to see what equipment would be the most efficient for this particular survey.
- Enter time and costing information. This can be as simple as day rates and infill predictions, or as detailed as you like.
- When you see your survey pictured, you can right-click any line or combination of lines and enter real world conditions such as shipping lanes, weather restrictions and priority.
3. Press “Search” to find the best plan – at the start, middle or end of your survey.
- When you see your survey on screen, press the
button to search for the most efficient solution.
- Within a few minutes, search will settle on a solution. You can now see a wealth of information about your survey:
- Time and cost stats, accessible through View > Details > Cost and Time use
- Production stats, accessible through View > Details > Production statistics
- An enormous amount of predictive data, accessible through the relevant tables. (Note that even more data than is originally displayed can be accessed by right-clicking the table heading and selecting “Choose…”.)
